I started making fruit preserves for two reasons. I needed to do something with the Pomegranate and Orange trees dropping fruit in my yard when I moved to Altadena, California. I also had a grandmother who sent all her children, including my mother, homemade guava jam for Christmas. My home in the foothills between Pasadena and the Angeles Forest does not compare with my grandparents’ farm in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. But my family likes my jelly better 😊. I started selling my preserves when my relatives and friends told me it was too good to just give away.
- Ingredients: fresh fruit, sugar, pectin and other natural ingredients.
- My preserves are never “thinned out” and no preservatives (or any other chemicals) are ever added.
- All my fruit comes from my yard and those of my family, friends, and neighbors and would otherwise likely go to waste.
So, by saving this fruit, we meet the first half of the goal of Peck’s Preserves which is to “do good while doing well”. The second half is up to you!
I now offer my orange, tangerine, lemon, and grapefruit marmalades, my pomegranate jelly, and my guava and persimmon jams (in season) at farmers’ markets in and around Los Angeles County and online, nationwide.
